The Brownsea Island Scout and Guide Heritage Trust

Baden-Powell held an experimental camp on Brownsea Island in 1907 from which developed the worlwide Scout and Guide Movements.

In 1962, with the support of the Scout Association, the Island was purchased by the National Trust. Since then thousands of Scouts and Guides from around the world have visited and camped on the Island to experience and enjoy the 'magic' left by the Founder and to take part in adventurous activities.

In 1997 the Heritage Trust reviewed its provision of facilities and activities. In 2002 an appeal was launched to provide a new centre to mark the Centenary of Scouting in 2007. In partnership with the National Trust this vision was achieved and the 'Baden-Powell Outdoor Centre' was opened on 14th September 2007.
